3 Keys to Getting What You Want

getting what you want

Are you clear how to get what you want? Do you know the keys to understanding what it takes to achieve your goals?

Key #1: The Truth About Time

“I wish I had more time!”

“If only there were 2 more hours in every day!”

“If I had just one extra day per week …!”

Sound familiar? I used to say that. But what I know now is that “we all have all the time there is – 24 hours!” No one has more or less than at amount.

“If I only had $5,000 I could do it!”

“I can’t do anything until I get more money.”

“I’ll spend on my family, but won’t spend on myself unless I get more money.”

Sound familiar? I used to say that. But what I know now is that “all successful people have these three keys in common that make them a success.”

And these people ‘start on their goal right now, regardless of circumstances.’

Key #2: The Value of New Information

  • Goals are wants, not needs.
  • Goals require you know the first steps, but not HOW you will achieve them.
  • Goals are about why.
  • Goals must include your plan to give back.
  • Goals must be written and include color, form, temperature, and emotion.
  • Goals are written and spoken in the 1st person – although they are already here.
  • Goals require time constraints – by when will you achieve them.
  • Goals are specific.

Time and money are beliefs, interfering with reaching goals, and must be put on the back burner when moving toward what we want. If we don’t, then we’ll come up with all sorts of excuses why we can’t do it … primarily not enough time and not enough money.

A goal can actually provide more time and manage your schedule effectively. How are you perceiving time and money?

When you have a specific goal, and think of it as your already having it and you have no clue how you are going to do it, and you want it more than anything, ask yourself this key question when an activity or appointment comes up:

If I do this, will it take me toward my goal or away from my goal?

If it takes you toward your goal – DO IT; if it does not, don’t do it (at least not right now).

Only about 15% of people set goals (with roughly less than 5% ever reaching goals with consistency). So you can see how the belief that there ‘isn’t enough time’ exists and impacts most of us.

Consider yourself part of the few percent, should you choose to apply the few benchmarks for effective goal setting above.

Key #3: You Don’t Have to Know How You’ll Get What You Want

getting what you wantIn fact, those who achieve do not know HOW they will achieve it. They do know Why they want it however. When it comes to money, when we really want something, something that makes our heart sing, something that we know in our heart of hearts is for us, the money always shows up! And it rarely shows up from the source we expected.

It’s the wanting and willingness and desire for the thing we want that has us step through our fears of doing the very things with which we are uncomfortable or unfamiliar, yet are required for achievement. If our desire for the things takes a back seat to the earning of revenue, the desire is not strong enough to keep us willing to keep stepping forward. It stops us from stepping out on Faith and doing it even when ‘we don’t know how.’
We stay motivated when we step through a fear, do it well, step through another one, and so on. The purpose of a goal is to motivate us into action.

What we think, we eventually believe. What we believe sets us in motion (action). If we believe something wonderful (like a goal), our vibration (action) is high and we merrily move toward that goal. Our results, or our goal, is then manifested by natural law. Ideas are spiritual seeds available to all, but the person who ‘moves’ on that idea, gets to see it come to fruition!

To be part of the very few who achieve their goals, wants and dreams with momentum and consistency, simply take on these three keys.

1. We all have the same amount of time.

2. New information is the ‘miracle grow’ for motivating human beings.

3. Focus on why you want it and forget about how you will do it.

Principles of Success: Two Things We Can Learn About Success from Toddlers

Principles of Success

In Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill, the #2 best seller of all time, Persistence is referred to as “the 8th of Carnegie’s Principles of Success.” Of the 17 principles articulated, two are absolute must-haves if you are going to have any shot at success. One is the first principle – a Burning DESIRE; the second is PERSISTENCE. Certainly the more of the 17 principles you study, understand and apply, the better your shot at being, doing and having your dreams manifest.

I am convinced that we are born with access to infinite potential, a solid connection to universal intelligence, and co-creators with God. Then, however, our conditioning by outside circumstances, as we grow and mature over time, takes us further and further away from knowing and keeping these truths top-of-mind. Each of us finally stops somewhere along the way to begin a personal, inward journey. That journey simply guides us back, through the layers and years of conditioning, to the original truth and access to what we had to begin with. Infinite potential.

The Challenge:

A one year old boy insists on going down 2.5 steps, head first. Turned around numerous times by adults to go down feet first on his belly, he continued to go down head first. Tears did not stop him. We closed the door, and for a few weeks he was not allowed on the stairs without an adult. The stairs lead into the playroom where his sister and two female cousins were playing! Talk about developing a burning desire! All he wanted to do was get down those stairs!

principles of successThe Solution:

Okay, I said to him as he continued to fuss about it, and with the back of his shirt grasped firmly in my right hand – and reminding him with incessant reassuring dialogue – down he went feet first! He scrambled up the stairs in no time, and began coming down again. I assumed the voice and shirt grasp for the next 30 trips down the stairs! That was followed by 20 more trips, including experimentation of different movements of arms and legs until … guess what? He turned around and came down feet first on his own!

What did my grandson instinctively have, I had to ask myself as I watched him with awe making his final trek of the day? He had exhibited and exercised the two REQUIRED principles for SUCCESS! – Burning Desire and Persistence

New Challenge:

How to keep him from being conditioned “out-of” that access to his perfect and infinite potential as he grows. It’s a work in progress.

The Power of Positive Thinking: How it Can Change Your Life

positive thinking

Regardless of the area of our life we take a look at (career, family, community, spirituality, wellness) we are 100% responsible for all our Results. That’ s a bold statement, I know. It appears so many times that other people and circumstances have an impact on our Results, but they do not.

First, let’s go back to the statement which all of the greatest minds have agreed upon since recorded history (about 6,000 years), “what we think about we become” or “as a man thinks, so does he become”.

For the sake of this Drop of Awareness, let’s agree that ‘they’ are correct. So how does that work you may be thinking, or you may already know. With Repetition, the 1st Law of Learning, it’s a great thing to hear it again.

1. We get our Results from the Actions we take

2. We take our Actions based on our Vibration

3. Our Vibration is determined by our Feelings

4. Our Feelings are generated by our Beliefs

5. Our Beliefs are formed from our pervasive Thoughts

Second, let’s be clear about one thing – we humans have control over one – and only one – thing! And that is our ability to Choose our Thoughts! And, we can only hold one thought in our conscious awareness at a time.

positive thinkingThird, if we choose positive Thoughts “what a great economy” or “I love the rain”, and think that over and over again, we eventually create a positive Belief which evokes a high, positive Vibration. That Vibration sets our Action; we get great Results. If we don’t intentionally choose positive thoughts and we let others fill that precious conscious awareness of ours, like television news anchors that continually broadcast how bad our economy is (negative thoughts) as an example, then those Thoughts become our Beliefs. They set off a low (negative) vibration and the Actions we take give us poor or fair Results.

The trick here is to ‘catch’ ourselves when we are thinking negatively (or within earshot of negative words), use the Law of Polarity (Opposites) which says for every negative there must be a positive, for every up there has to be a down, or behind every cloud there is a silver lining, and intentionally find the opposite thought on which to dwell, and intentionally shift our thoughts in the moment. Sort of like seeing the silver lining while inside the cloud because we know that natural Laws are orderly and work all the time, every time, whether we are aware of them or not. Choosing thoughts requires practice; practice will turn into habit; and before you know it your Results will match your Thoughts. Positive thoughts yield positive Results!
